WHEN WILL YOU MARRY? (The Most Expensive Artwork Ever Sold So Far)

Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), French post-impressionist artist) was not well appreciated until his death. ''When Will You Marry'' has been sold for nearly $300m.in 2015. The painting, belonged to the collector Rudolf Staechelin, was on display Kunstmuseum in Basel for 50 years, the identity of the buyer is not confirmed yet but thought to be sold to a museum in Qatar.

Today his painting becomes the most expensive artwork ever sold, 1892 oil painting of two Thaihitian girls

Like so many artists, Gauguin's talent was not fully recognized until after his death, which came in 1903 at the age of 54 from a morphine overdose. He was a major influence on 20th century greats like Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and Henri Matisse.

Before this painting of Gauguni, the record of being the most expensive artwork to be sold was belonging to Paul Cezanne (1839-1906, French post-impressionist painter). ''The Card Players''was painted during the last period of the artist in the early 1890s. There are five series in the paintings. One version of The Card Players was sold in 2011 to Royal Family of Qatar for a price estimated about $259m.
